The Clyde River Hotel located in Island
Pond, Vermont was formerly known as the "Essex
Hotel." Built in 1866 it remains basically as it was back
then. The Hotel itself straddles the Clyde River,
which is the outlet for Island Pond (the lake) whose banks are only 100 feet
away from the front door of the hotel. It's hard wood floors still have a fresh
look shine to them, along with the "Grand Room"
the interior looks as it did years ago.
The exterior of the hotel also
remains for the most part as it did during the days years ago when Island Pond
was a very busy area. The first International
Railroad Junction in the United States was
established here along with lumber mills and factories.
