This image is of the North End (Iron Bridge) Island Pond Bridge after the flood of 1927. The bridge, a riveted-lattice truss with double diagonals, was swept away with the water along with more than twelve hundred other bridges that were destroyed during this flood. In the foreground are several large logs, and at the bottom left is a pile of coats or cloth. There are large boulders scattered amongst these logs. Several men are standing near a stone wall, one of the supports for the bridge. Part of the stone wall has collapsed, and the interior is exposed, showing earth and rubble. The steel frame can be seen above the men. Across the river leafless deciduous trees can be seen.
